Cupcakes with Coffee - Bloom Even if Wilting

Wilting in the Heat but Blooming Anyway: A Summer Mood

I’ll be honest—I’m not a summer girl. The heat drains me, the relentless sunshine makes me squint, and don’t get me started on trying to look put together when the humidity insists, I’m meant to resemble a melted popsicle.

But then I see the hydrangea blooms...

Those big, unapologetically beautiful blooms show up right in the middle of the season I complain about most. Blooms don’t seem to care that it’s too hot or that the world feels a little loud and chaotic. They just bloom—soft, full, and radiant. Every year, the blooms remind me of something simple but powerful: you don’t have to love the conditions to grow anyway.

Maybe this summer feels heavy. Maybe you’re wilting a bit too. But like those hydrangea blooms, you still get to bloom. Even in a season that isn’t your favorite. Even when the timing doesn’t feel perfect. Even if you're dragging yourself through with iced coffee and sheer will. Bloom.

This season might not be comfortable—but it can still be beautiful in its own messy, sweaty, blue-and-blush-blossomed way. So pour your iced drink, throw some shade (literally), and let yourself bloom anyway.

Cupcakes, coffee, and hydrangea blooms always.

Let’s do it anyway.

Love, Kate

Now, onto cupcakes.

Cupcakes

Cupcakes with Coffee Style:

Cupcakes are tiny acts of joy—soft, sweet reminders that life doesn’t have to be big or perfect to be worth celebrating. They’re the reward after a hard day (mid-day, if necessary), the comfort during a messy one, and pure bliss in edible form. Paired with a good cup of coffee, they’re not just dessert—they’re a moment of pause, a little cheer, and sometimes, the reason you keep going.

"There is nothing a strong cup of coffee and a cupcake can't fix."

The sweet cupcake recipe is the creation of Lauren's from The Cake Blog.

Make them JUMBO!

My Takeaways:

  • Obviously, omit the yellow food coloring for the frosting as well as the yellow sprinkles - this time.
  • If you chose to bake in jumbo form, you will need to increase the baking time to ensure they are baked through
  • I strongly suggest using local wildflower honey in the recipe, if available, or purchase some here.

Coffee

For this cupcake, pair it with a milk and honey cold brew.

A little tidbit:

Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee in cold water for an extended period, typically 12-24 hours. This method results in a smoother, less acidic, and often sweeter taste compared to hot-brewed coffee. Cold brew is also known for its higher caffeine concentration and can be stored for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.

"Happiness in a cup."

Conclusion

I may not love the heat, but I’ve learned this: growth doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. Like the hydrangeas, we can bloom through discomfort, push through the hard seasons, and still show up in full color. So even if summer’s not your thing—bloom anyway.

A Little About Me

Hi, I’m Kate—writer, encourager, coffee sipper, and cupcake enthusiast. I started Cupcakes with Coffee as a form of therapy. For a long time, I lived in survival mode—pushing through, people-pleasing, and carrying weight that wasn’t mine to carry. Writing became the place where I could finally set it all down. And focus on my two favorite passions—coffee and cupcakes.

My blog is my way of turning pain into purpose. It’s my apology to myself for settling for less than I deserved, and my reminder to anyone reading that you don’t have to have it all together to move forward—you just have to do it anyway.

I wanted to create a space that felt real. A place where the messy parts of life could sit right alongside the cozy, the funny, and the motivating. Because that’s how life actually is—a mix of hard truths and small joys. That’s why I started this website and more importantly this blog: to write through it, to share it, and maybe, to help someone else feel a little less alone while they figure it out too.

So pull up a chair, grab some coffee and a cupcake, and stay awhile.

Love, Kate
